Local Information La Union is a small town located to the east of Cartagena. It is named La Union after an amalgamation of 4 smaller villages in 1850. The town history is rooted in mining, & indeed it is still relatively reliant on this industry. A museum of mining is present here, & once a year mining choirs from all over Spain gather here to take part in a traditional fiesta. Though there is increased interest in the town it still remains relatively untouched by tourism. Being an established community means a good selection of shops, restaurants & other facilities such as a train station & health centres. La Union is conveniently located for beach lovers, at just a short drive. Slightly farther afield lay Cartagena & the La Manga strip with all they have to offer. La Manga Club is the nearest golf club with three 18 hole championship courses & an 18 hole pitch & putt.
