New research has revealed that many Brits are shunning Spanish property in a bid to avoid 'fish and chip culture'...
The survey conducted by GE Money Home Lending found that 82 per cent of consumers who would not opt to buy property in Spain claimed the reason was the English pub/fish-and-chip-eating culture of the expat communities.
Gerry Bell, of GE Money Home Lending, said: "Spain's popularity with Britons is both its main advantage and its biggest downfall. Many are attracted to the country because they know others who have settled there or are familiar with the destination.
"However many see Spain - rightly or wrongly - as being a 'Little Britain on the Costas' and are keen to find somewhere with its own distinct culture and feel, rather than one which is so heavily influenced by a big expat population."
Nevertheless, the survey revealed that Spain remains the most popular country for people looking to buy abroad, mainly due to the climate and cheap travel
